In Person Doctor for a Day Placements
Why should you attend our doctor for a day placements?
You need to have an insight into what it is like working as a doctor in the NHS ๐ Medical schools still want evidence of this even during the COVID19 pandemic.
Itโs tough studying 5 years at medical school ๐ You need to be aware of the qualities required to be a doctor, and have some of them.
You need to not just watch healthcare being delivered, but also reflect and provide your own thoughts on what you have experienced ๐ฆ
What do you teach on the doctor for a day courses?
We will teach you how to take a clinical history from a patient and then let you practice your communication skills with patients from our practice ๐
We will go through common diagnostic tests that you can do in the GP surgery, such as checking blood pressure, ECGโs and pulse oximetry ๐ฉธ
You will learn about cardiology, respiratory and emergency medicine and use this knowledge to treat your patient
You will learn about medical ethics, as well as the General Medical Council, good medical practice guidelines and how to apply these to patient scenarios โ๏ธ
You will need to be holistic in the care that you provide to patients. Not everything needs a prescription or an operation ๐
The experience in hands on ๐ Students are expected to engage with the tutors and other students, as they will be as medical students in a team.
What practical skills and experience will I gain from the medicine work experience?
You placement will include practical surgical skills including how to suture a wound and take blood samples from patients โ๏ธ๐ฉผ
On our weekend placements we provide full training in Basic Life Support. Learn how to respond to a patient who has stopped breathing and administer emergency resuscitation.
